ABOUT

Hello!

Welcome to jourviz.com, my web lab 🤯 for "journalism visualized." It is where I piece together stuff in creative ways. You will find independent projects that I did just for fun, as well as samples of my published works.

At the moment, I'm a marketing strategist for B2B businesses as I always fancy working with data 📊.

In the past, I had worked with the research faculty at the University of Arizona's School of Journalism on subjects including crimes against journalist around the globe, press freedom near the U.S.–Mexico border, access to information laws in India, among others.

In 2019, I applied and was accepted by the M.S. data journalism program at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. The dean welcomed me in a letter ↗️, denoting that the admission committee believed in my "potential to become a first-rate journalist and a leader of the profession." It was a great honor.

And yet life is full of surprises – COVID-19 quickly infected the entire world later that year.

In 2017, I designed The Pulitzer Long Shot – How Our 1983 Latino Stories for L.A. Times Won Journalism's Top Prize ↗️, an online book authored by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Frank O. Sotomayor. The book is being proudly hosted on JourViz.

Have fun! 😄
